First gastric pacemaker operations in the UK

23 September The Healthier Weight Centre at the Princess Grace Hospital, London, performed a new obesity surgery procedure for the first time in the UK this month. The procedure, implantable gastric stimulation (IGS), commonly known as the gastric pacemaker, involves keyhole surgery to implant a pulse generator under the skin of the abdominal wall.

The IGS was reported upon by Martyn Halle in an article called The Fat Buster published in the Daily mail (29 September). The article describes the surgery, and quoted the first patient to be implanted with the IGS in the UK.
